Core Focus: Building core strength, deepening twists, exploring arm balances, and incorporating cooling pranayama (breathing techniques).
Phase 1: Spring
Spring Renewal & Detox Focus (Weeks 1–4):
Waking up the body, twisting out winter stagnation, and building core stability.
Week 1: Grounding & Awakening
Theme: Rooting down to rise up.
Focus: Re-establishing strong foundations in standing poses and opening the hips.
Peak Poses: Extended Side Angle (Utthita Parsvakonasana), Bird of Paradise prep, Half Moon (Ardha Chandrasana).
Pranayama: Kapalabhati (Breath of Fire) to stimulate energy.
Week 2: Core Fire & Spinal Twists
Theme: Detoxing the digestive system and building heat.
Focus: Deep twisting variations and deep abdominal engagement.
Peak Poses: Revolved Triangle (Parivrtta Trikonasana), Boat Pose (Navasana) variations.
Pranayama: Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing) for balance.
Week 3: Heart Opening & Vulnerability
Theme: Spring blooms and expansive energy.
Focus: Mobilizing the thoracic spine and opening the shoulders.
Peak Poses: Camel Pose (Ustrasana), Wheel Pose (Urdhva Dhanurasana), Wild Thing (Camatkarasana).
Pranayama: Bhastrika (Bellows Breath) to clear congestion.
Week 4: The Flight of Spring
Theme: Playfulness and taking flight.
Focus: Arm balances and hip flexibility.
Peak Poses: Crow Pose (Bakasana), firefly pose (Titibhasana), Eight-Angle Pose (Astavakrasana).
Pranayama: Dirga Pranayama (Three-Part Breath) to find calm amidst effort.
Phase 2: Summer
Week 5: Igniting the Fire (Early Summer)
Focus: Tapping into summer solar energy (Surya) to build upper body and core strength.
Pranayama: Surya Bhedana (Right Nostril Breathing) to stimulate energy.
Asana Highlights: Dolphin Pose, Plank variations, and safely kicking up into Forearm Stand.
Week 6: Flowing with Fluidity (Summer Peak)
Focus: High-energy, modified ashtanga primary practice.
Pranayama: Sheetali (Cooling Breath) at the end of class to vent excess heat.
Week 7: Pacing the Intensity (Mid-Summer)
Focus: Managing internal heat through deep twists and core stabilization.
Pranayama: Chandra Bhedana (Left Nostril Breathing) to soothe the nervous system.
Asana Highlights: Revolved Side Angle Pose.
Week 8: Cooling & Integrating (Late Summer)
Focus: Grounding the fiery summer energy and preparing the body for rest and deep flexibility.
Pranayama: Dirga Pranayama (Three-Part Breath) for deep relaxation.
Asana Highlights: Hanumanasana (Splits), Astavakrasana Pose, and an extended Savasana.
